Haitian Ministry Seeking Blood Collection/Lab Supplies

From Phlebotomy Today 2005

Tim R. Randolph is a popular speaker in the laboratory circuit and a devout Christian. Not only does he talk the talk, but he walks the walk. The walk he chooses is through Randolph World Ministries, Inc. a Christian organization that seeks to improve medical services and promote spirituality for the people of Haiti.

Randolph World Ministries, Inc. (RWM) works to improve the medical services in Haiti in a number of ways. Throughout the year RWM provides medical and laboratory supplies to six Haitian laboratories, and email consultation to two of them. During annual medical mission trips to Haiti RWM provides a variety of medical, laboratory and child sponsorship supplies, on-site laboratory training and consultation, and free mass screening to patients at Bethesda Medical Center, a Christian operated clinic in Vaudreuil, Haiti. In order to provide the laboratory materials on an ongoing basis, RWM and their partners are always on the lookout for supplies and equipment US labs and manufacturers would otherwise discard. The items collected and redistributed by Randolph World Ministries, Inc. fall into four broad categories; financial contributions, laboratory materials, non-laboratory medical supplies, and child sponsorship supplies. Medical supply donors include clinical laboratory professionals and other medical professionals who donate medical materials to the ministry and serve as a liaison between their facility and RMW. These partners are continually aware of the laboratory needs of the ministry and stay on the alert for laboratory materials that become available at their facility due to overstock, out-dating, or procedure changes. These materials are rescued from the waste stream and sent directly to Randolph World Ministries, Inc. RMW covers the shipping costs associated with the donation, but is grateful when the medical donor includes shipping costs into their donation. Randolph requests Phlebotomy Today readers to consider donating tube holders, tourniquets, specimen collection tubes, 20- and 21-gauge multi-sample needles, 21-gauge butterfly sets, alcohol preps, gauze pads, lancets, micro-collection tubes, bandages, and 5-gallon sharps containers. Outdated or expired supplies are acceptable. A complete list of all laboratory equipment needed is available on RWM's web site.

In addition to the above items, RMW has an urgent need for the following laboratory supplies and equipment: financial contributions, microscope coverslips, heparinized microhematocrit tubes, microhematocrit centrifuges, EDTA blood collection tubes, large latex gloves, WBC Thoma pipettes, and plastic transfer pipettes.

In order to accomplish these activities, RMW seeks to grow their current partnership networks and establish new networks. Phlebotomy Today readers interested in sharing in the RWM mission by donating laboratory materials, by being on the ministry's annual contribution mailing list, or by joining the medical mission team are asked to contact Tim at the following address:
